Please, please pay attention to the current battle in Congress to replace John Boehner as Speaker of the House (also known as the 3rd person in line for the Presidency). Boehner is leaving; the presumptive replacement was Kevin McCarthy, but just this week Rep Chaffetz (Chair of the congressional hearings this past week to kill Planned Parenthood ) announced that he was challenging the Party status quo to become the next Speaker of the House.
Please do not allow this to happen. Chaffetz got his butt handed to him this week during the Planned Parenthood hearing that he chairs, not only by Cecile Richards (daughter of Ann Richards, kickass governor of Texas), but also by pundits from the left and right who ridiculed his mistakenly attributing a really stupid chart to Planned Parenthood data when it was really the product of an anti-choice advocacy group, and even was credited as such at the bottom corner of the slide. When Richards pointed this out to Chaffetz and suggested that he check his sources, he was toast. He doesn't know he's toast, though, and is still lobbying the other 200+ Republics in the House to support him.
Intellectually I am glad that the status quo is being questioned. Personally, I am terrified by the possibility of Chaffetz.
As a progressive (per force, more aligned with Democrats), I have no influence with any Republican in Congress. You, though, as a Republican, can influence your own Party. 3rd in line to the Presidency is a big damn deal, and it's up to you to weigh in on who that person should be. Please do not just leave this decision to either the status-quo leanings of the Party or to an upstart 1st-term politician who thinks he knows it all.

Done lurking: shame on CFI and JREF
Done lurking and hanging back: CFI and JREF--bastions of status quo patriarchy
Been following closely the unravelling of CFI and JREF as they attempt to rationalize and justify patriarchal myths of male superiority. Am also following those who attempt to deligitimize matriarchal/feminine validity because they are blindingly following an ancient dogma that worships superiority and perforce assumes it's masculine.
Superiority: a concept not enjoined by and large by the left, by feminists, or by those who understand that events happen "in time" and absolutes are seldom required or justified.
Thanks to all who have stood for women and against patriarchy's stereotypes of women.
New at this. Thanks for your patience.
